Intern Position - Academic Year 2007-2008
The adLab Intern will 1) serve as a liaison in maintaining constant communication with our participating school chapters as well as ensuring that programs operate efficiently and meet the organization’s goals; 2) conduct regular school visits to provide ongoing support to students and faculty sponsors on current campaign issues and projects; 3) receive training on advocacy skills and adLab’s target issues; and 4) gain an understanding of the operations of a small start-up non-profit organization. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking for hands-on experience working with youth and human rights advocacy. A small stipend will be provided.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Instill an understanding of basic human rights in high school students as well as introduce concepts of activism, advocacy, and community organizing
  • Work with youth to identify human rights issues and employ adLab resources to design and implement advocacy campaigns around a chosen issue
  • Ensure timely and coordinated support to adLab programs in participating schools
  • Coordinate regular meetings with faculty sponsors, student leaders, and adLab board
  • Manage associated administrative duties
Background and Experience
  • Graduate students preferred; current college students and recent graduates are also encouraged to apply
  • Prior experience working with youth in a group setting is required
  • Must possess a strong interest in advocating for human rights
  • Background in grassroots campaign organizing is a plus
  • Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to engage young people and work with diverse populations in group settings
  • Must demonstrate confidence, leadership, and excellent group facilitation skills
  • Willingness to adapt to new situations and tasks and take initiative where needed
  • Ability to troubleshoot and communicate with tact and diplomacy
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with great attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and ensure timely completion of short- and long-term project goals
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize accordingly
  • Ability to work on an individual and team basis
  • Excellent computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer Requirements

Commitment to 5-10 hours/week for the academic high school year
