Successful applicants will receive an appropriate stipend to cover international travel and living expenses in Kyoto. Research funds will also be provided to facilitate his/her work. Funds will also be allocated for domestic travel, subject to government regulations, and a number of other facilities are available to visiting scholars. Fellows will be expected to reside in Kyoto for the duration of their fellowship period.
Scholars are normally invited to deliver a public lecture during their term at the Center. Fellows will also be encouraged to submit an article for possible publication in the Center's quarterly journal, Southeast Asian Studies, and to contribute to the online Kyoto Review of Southeast Asia.
Five fellowships, including one librarian position, will become available on the following dates:
- December 1, 2008 (Librarian)
- 2) December 1, 2008
- January 10, 2009
- February 1, 2009
- March 1, 2009
Eligibility
Applicants must be mid-career or senior researchers who will be under 63 years of age at the time of the commencement of the fellowship appointment. This fellowship is not available to individuals currently pursuing graduate degrees or post-doctoral studies.

- a curriculum vitae (not exceeding 5 pages) including research experience and a list of your main publications.
- hard copies of two letters of recommendation (these may be enclosed with the application or sent by the referees directly to the CSEAS, General Affairs Section)
- Applications should not be stapled, folded, or bent.
