ECOHEALTH AWARDS for presentation at the Third Conference of the International Association for Ecology & Health August 18-20, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London, UK

The International Association for Ecology & Health (IAEH) was formed in 2006. The Association's mission is to strive for sustainable health of people, wildlife, and ecosystems by promoting discovery, understanding and transdisciplinarity. The specific objectives of the Association toward this overarching mission are to:
  • serve a diverse international community, including scientists, educators, policy makers, practitioners and the general public;
  • provide mechanisms and forums to facilitate international and interdisciplinary discourse, such as publishing the journal EcoHealth, holding biennial conferences, and promoting additional activities in line with the mission;
  • encourage development of transdisciplinary teaching, research and problem-solving that cuts across many fields of scholarship (including natural, social, and health sciences as well as the humanities) and draws upon multiple types of knowledge.



The Association is pleased to announce two awards to be nominated and selected for announcement at the third biennial conference of the Association in London, UK, August 18-20, 2010:
Outstanding Contribution to the field of EcoHealth
Exceptional Early Career Contribution to the field of EcoHealth (nominees must be within 10 years of completion of their Ph.Ds).


Criteria for the two awards is as follows: The Outstanding Contribution to the Field of EcoHealth award honors will be an advanced researcher who has developed an outstanding body of EcoHealth work or has made sustained contributions of extraordinary merit to the field of EcoHealth. Nominees should be a member of the International Association for Ecology and Health and at a point in their career when they can be reasonably expected to make further contributions to the field. The awardee will have exemplified the objectives of the Association and any or all of the following: key publications in scientific journals or other scholarly media outlets, dissemination of knowledge in multiple forums (e.g. science-based advocacy, practical application of scientific knowledge, and/or educational initiatives), peer recognition by invitations to speak or contribute to special sessions, sustained influence on others to achieve and advance the field of EcoHealth, and recognized leadership in the field of EcoHealth.

The Exceptional Early Career Contribution to the Field of EcoHealth award recognizes a promising researcher who has demonstrated the potential to advance the field of EcoHealth. Nominees for this award should be within 10 years of completing their Ph.Ds and be members of the International Association for Ecology and Health. The award recipient will have shown evidence of professional excellence as represented by a combination of any or all of the following: key publications in scientific journals or other scholarly media outlets, peer recognition by invitations to speak or contribute to special sessions, excellence in communication of scientific knowledge to the media, public, or other stakeholders, involvement in education in the field of EcoHealth, stated academic career goals and/or participation in groups or organizations designed to further the mission and/or objectives of the Association.

Nomination packages should consist of:
  • a brief cover letter from the person(s) making the nomination, confirmation that the nominee is aware they have been nominated;
  •  a one page description of the nominee(s), describing which award they have been nominated for, the basis for their nomination and how they fulfill the criteria outlined above;
  • a full curriculum vitae of the nominee with a complete contact details;
  • at least two additional supporting letters that detail their contribution to the field. Note these supporting letters should not come from the same institution as the nominee or the person(s) making the nomination.


Awards winners will be notified in advance of the presentations of the awards at the 2010 conference in London and would be expected to be members of the Association at the time of receiving the award. Members of the Board of the International Association for Ecology are not eligible for nomination. The nomination deadline for the award is May 30 and nomination package should be sent to secretariat@ecohealth.net.
