View Change Film Contest

ViewChangeFilmContest.org is launching an online competition to find powerful new stories about the progress being made in achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). These short videos will be used to raise awareness, inspire action, and accelerate the worldwide movement to reduce extreme poverty by 2015. We want professional filmmakers, amateurs, and experts in the field to show us the personal stories behind these global targets. Whether your film is a documentary, short drama, music video, or animation, we're looking for stories that show how development efforts are helping the world's poorest people to improve their lives.

There are six categories (listed below). To encourage a variety of submissions, we're offering a $20,000 Grand Prize for the overall winner, plus $5,000 to the winner of each category. Online voters will help determine the finalists in each category. Winners will be chosen by a distinguished panel of judges from many fields, including actor and UN Ambassador Danny Glover and US Senator Daniel K. Inouye. Best of all, the videos of winners and finalists will be broadcast on Link TV and other television channels worldwide, and be available for high-quality streaming at ViewChange

We want powerful five-minute films that tell stories of progress in developing countries. What are people doing to help end poverty, disease, hunger, conflict, inequality, and illiteracy? Show us the progress being made towards achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Your film can win the $20,000 Grand Prize, be shown on Link TV and other TV channels worldwide, and can inspire action and change!

You may enter in six categories:

•Leadership & Governance
•Local/Global Partnerships
•Overcoming Conflict
•Sustainability

Get Started
To Submit

1. Select one of our categories and make a film according to the subject Category criteria.

Worried about making a film? Check out our Director's Toolkit page, which also includes all the legal stuff.

2. If you aren’t already, sign up to be a Link TV member. If you want to know why, visit our FAQ pages.

3. Fill out our filmmaker’s registration form. Make sure you include all your contact info so we can get hold of you if there’s a problem with your entry or to notify you if you become a Finalist. Every entrant must also email a bio and a photo. Your film description will accompany your film clip during viewing and voting.

4. Include the mandatory ViewChange End Slate at the end of your film (it won’t count as part of your total running time).

5. Upload your film using our easy uploader. This tool works in the same way as YouTube’s, transporting your video from your desktop to the internet. Your submission must be on the following formats only: WMV, AVI, MOV, or MPG file formats and not exceed 100 MB. Visit our FAQs to find out more about encoding tips to avoid possible frustrations.

6. Don’t forget to include a thumbnail image for your film—it’s the first thing viewers will see before they hit “Play.”

You can submit films beginning April 30, 2010 up until August 31, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. PT. When you submit your entry, screeners will review it to make sure it complies with our Rules & Regulations, and, if it does, they will make it live on the site. You will receive email notification when your video goes live on the site. Entries that send hateful messages or don't fulfill the Rules & Regulations will be rejected by email.
